I wasn't aware that Miu Miu had such a beautiful ad campaign this season. Hailee Steinfeld was photographed by Bruce Weber and she somehow fits really well despite her young age. It seems to become normal to use very young actresses for ad campaigns (think Marc Jacobs). I don't mind as long as the outcome is as pleasing as this one and it's not sexually offensive.

Colourful Socks
I have been neglecting colourful socks for way too long and only recently have I discovered what a pretty nice touch the right choice of the right coloured socks add to an already complete outfit.

Serious Styling at the Manhattan Vintage Trade Show
Amy Van Doran from The Way We Wore wearing a vintage hat that she altered with a plastic lobster.
Three times a year, vintage sellers and lovers alike gather at the The Manhattan Vintage Clothing Show at Metropolitan Pavilion. The organizers are kind enough to send me press passes to the shows, but unfortunately most vendors won't allow photographs of their precious wares, which designers often buy to replicate for their own collections. So, this year, I grabbed my gay husband to gawk at the inspiring inventory as well as all the incredibly dressed ladies turned out in all of their vintage finery. I'm seriously surprised that I didn't run into any street style bloggers at the show, as I think the women I saw today were much more creatively dressed than the majority of the label-obsessed ladies swanning for the cameras in front of Lincoln Center. Here is just a small sampling of my favorite outfits of the day.
If you missed this weekend's show, do not fret. There will be a Manhattan Vintage Holiday Pop-up Sale at Chelsea Market from December 7-10th. And, if you're a hardcore vintage junkie, Augusta Auctions will be holding their seasonal clothing auction on November 2nd at St. Paul's Auditorium, featuring items from the Brooklyn Museum, and various vintage archives. They were sweet enough to let me take some photos of some of the pieces that will be at the auction, and you can view the entire catalog online.

Mood Board

I put this little mood board together with the help of Elif from il cinema lunare., because I love her Tumblr and I am quite bad at finding appropriate pictures on my own. Since most pictures are taken from different Tumblrs, I unfortunately have no idea about the origin of the photos or their original purpose.
American Surfaces by Stephen Shore
Stephen Shore, born 1947, was second to get a solo show at the MoMA by a living photographer. He started photographing at a very early age and already sold three prints when he was 14 to Edward Steichen, the curator of photography at the MoMA back then. During the early seventies, he started doing road trips, at first with another friend and later on all by himself. That's when the photographs below were shot. He titled them American Surfaces. Although they seem like regular snapshots at first, they're unmistakably by Stephen Shore. He simply wanted to record everything he came across. Along William Eggleston, he helped establishing colour photography where it is today. Many famous photographers (Nan Goldin, Thomas Struth and Martin Parr just to name a few) have listed him as one of their influences. His work American Surfaces may have not been well received by the audience back then, but it was certainly a turning point for him and colour photography. American Surfaces is one of my favourite photography books and an endless source of inspiration. If you have only the slightest interest in colour photography, I suggest you have a look at this book as noone handles colours in photographs as Stephen Shore.

Alexander McQueen F/W 2011 Ad Campaign
I am not really sure whether I like this ad campaign or not. But I think I somehow do. What about you? It surely is very different from other ad campaign out there and it suits the mood of the designs and clothes really well. That's why I decided to post these on my blog.

Turned Out
Do you know the streetstyle blog Turnedout.tv? I can't believe I have only heard about it recently and after one peek I couldn't stop clicking next page. Maya Villiger (apparently grown up in Switzerland and now based in New York) captures people who inspires her and puts collages together. Her more recent streetstyle photos though are not the typical ones you see on other websites. She photographs with film and the photos look like something you would find in Juergen Teller's Go-Sees. It is actually how I intended to take my streetstyle photographs after I couldn't be bothered anymore to carry around my heavy DSLR but unfortunately I never made my plan reality. Enjoy a selection of Maya's photographs below and visit Turned Out to see the rest.
